Tuesday, July 12, 2011 - Earlier this afternoon Refton Volunteers along with Ambulance 5-9-1 (Providence Twp. EMS) and SVEMS were alerted to a vehicle accident involving downed wires in the 100 Block of Truce Road.  Ambulance 5-9-1 was the first in the area with a report of nothing found and was continuing on Truce Road towards Lancaster Pike (Route 272).  RescueEngine 5-9-1 made the response minutes after dispatch and was advised of the update.  Minutes later, LCWC was getting reports of a similar crash in the 100 Block of Clearfield Road in Providence Township, which would put it in Station 5-8's (Rawlinsville) First Due.  Responding Apparatus redirected to that area and LCWC added Station 5-8 to the box.  Ambulance 5-9-1 was the first to arrive on the scene and confirmed the same.

RescueEngine 5-9-1 along with units from Station 5-8 arrived minutes later to find a two vehicle accident; car vs. a drilling truck; with one injury, blocking and downed power lines.  Engine 5-8-2 approached the scene from the North and Engine 5-9-1 approached the scene from the South.  Engine 5-8-2 Crews handled the car and Engine 5-9-1 Crews handled the Drilling Truck.  After some additional investigation, it was discovered that there were downed live power lines on the drilling truck as well as a tractor trailer that was behind the drilling truck.  Crews from 5-9 secured the area around the drilling truck and tractor trailer as well as doing as much spill control operations as possible without compromising safety until transferring the responsibility to Engine 5-8-2.

Company 5-9 operated for approximately one hour.  Special Thanks to Tom Amico for the Pictures.
