Tuesday, December 18, 2012 - Earlier this year, the fire company made an important decision to turn Engine 59-1 into a Rescue.  This project was started partially when the Refton Volunteers received word of the station number change that was completed in August, 2013.  More importantly, the Volunteers also elected to make this revision as a way to better serve the community.  Engine 59-1 is currently certified as a Rescue Engine as set forth by the Lancaster County Fire Chief's Associations Standards, which means that it only has the minimum amount of rescue tools and equipment on board along with tools and equipment required for firefighting as well.

To help fund this venture, the Volunteers applied for a grant hosted by the State Fire Commissioners Office earlier this fall.  The Volunteers recently received word that they will be awarded the grant.  Part of the funds will be used to purchase the remaining tools and equipment needed.  The balance of the funds awarded will be used to help pay down the loan that we have on Engine 59-2.

The Refton Volunteers are looking to have this project completed by late first quarter of 2013.  Once the project is completed, Rescue 59 will be our main Rescue piece and Engine 59-2 will be our main Structural piece.
