Wednesday, January 11, 2012 - This past Saturday Afternoon, the Refton Volunteers along with multiple other agencies were alerted to assist Willow Street Fire Company (Station 5-12) with a Residential Structure Fire at 417 Lancaster Pike in Providence Twp. First arriving units reported a two story residential structure fully involved. RescueEngine 5-9-1 was the third unit on scene and assisted with Fire Suppression Operations. Engine 5-9-2 was tasked with setting up a draft site at the Pond at the Smithville Trailer Court (which is about a mile north of the fire). Tanker 5-9 assisted with the water supply operations and Squad 5-9 assisted Engine 5-9-2 at the draft site.
About two hours or so into the incident, the Refton Volunteers received a second due call in the 5-9 local; a reported woods fire on Sawmill Road in Providence Twp. Engine 5-9-5, Squad 5-9 and Engine 5-10-2 (Strasburg) were dispatched to this incident. Squad 5-9 arrived on scene with a controlled burn near the old rail line along Sawmill Road. Units cleared and Squad 5-9 returned to the scene of the Dwelling Fire.
The last of the Refton Units cleared the Lancaster Pike Fire around 18:00 hours. Roughly an hour and a half later, units were called back out to deal with flare ups and additional overhaul operations. Tanker 5-9 made the response for the water supply assist. Squad 5-9 also made the response for manpower. Refton Volunteers remained on scene till 02:00 hours.
