Wednesday, January 30, 2013 - Last Evening for weekly drill night, the Refton Volunteers performed monthly Preventative Maintenance to the apparatus, saws, tools, fans and other equipment while the Line Officers met with a local equipment vendor to start pricing out additional equipment needed to finish the 'Rescue 59' project.  Once the Maintenance was completed and the Line Officers were done with their meeting, all crews converged to the front bumper of Engine 59-2 to drill on a newer type of hose load that was decided to be placed into service.

The newer hose load was developed by the brothers from Bladensburg Fire Company and some of our surrounding mutual aid companies are starting to use it as well.  This newer type of hose load allows us to double the amount of hose we can pack in the trough that is in the front bumper.  Before, we could only load 100' of 1 3/4" hose.  With this newer load, we can now load 200' of 1 3/4" hose.  Another advantage of this newer load is that the line can be deployed by one person (if a second person isn't there to help depoly it).  Crews spent the rest of the night drilling on proper loading and deployment of this load.  We are currently experimenting with this load and if it continues to be successful, we plan on converting the bumper lines on Engine 1 and the Brush to the newer style load.
