Tuesday, October 1, 2013 - Today has been a busy day so far for the Refton Volunteers; logging in three calls so far for the day.  This morning, Squad 59-1 with four traveled to Bachman Funeral Home in Strasburg to take part in the funeral service of Auxiliary Member Mae Winters.  While the Squad was out in Strasburg, Tanker 59 handled a well fill at 300 Breneman Road in Strasburg Twp.

At 11:55 hours, shortly after the Tanker cleared the Public Service, the company was alerted of a reported Vehicle Fire at 1503 Beaver Valley Pike in Strasburg Twp.  Rescue 59 (Ibach) responded moments later and was given an update from Communications of a Combine on Fire that was not near any buildings.  With that update, the Rescue advised LCWC to add two additional tankers to the assignment and to cover what doesn't get out.  Upon arrival, the Rescue found a combine to the rear of the property with no visible fire showing.  Crews stretched the bumper line off the Rescue and a TIC and after further investigation determined the farmer used a fire extinguisher on the combine and was able to keep the fire in check until fire department personnel arrived.  Crews from Rescue 59 and Tanker 57 performed overhaul operations, checked for extension and cleared the scene.  Units operated just over an hour.

Special thanks to all companies who assisted.

Incident Command:  Lieutenant 59-1 (Hammel)

Units on Scene:  Rescue 59, Tanker 57, Tanker 05 and Tanker 60
