Newest Addition to the 59 Fleet

Monday, April 23, 2012 - Last week, the Refton Volunteers took delivery of a 2003 International Darley Pumper from Blue Rock Fire Rescue.  This Engine formerly served as Engine 7-8-2 (WBFC) and more recently as Engine 909 (BRFR).  The Refton Volunteers came across this and with some research, immediately jumped on the opportunity.  The plan is to replace our aging 1990 Ford/E-One Pumper with this new Pumper.  Some of the features that sold the Volunteers to go after this opportunity include:

• 4X4 Pump and Roll Capability
• Spray Bars under the Front Bumper
• 1500 GPM Front Mount Darley Pump
• Totally Enclosed Cab
• Enclosed seating for Five Firefighters (Four of which are Air Pack Seats)
• Driver and Passanger Air Bags
  

Once placed in service, the intention is for this piece of apparatus to be first out on all Structure Fire and Wildland Fire Assignments in the First Due.  Look for this Engine to be driving around the area on Tuesday Nights in the upcoming weeks as the Refton Volunteers will be Driver and Pump Training on this Piece.  The goal is to have this Engine in Service by the end of May; once all of the equipment is transferred over, the lettering is completed and the Driver/Pump Operators are completed with the training on this piece.

One thing that you will notice is that the Pumper is Red and the rest of the 59 Fire Fleet is Yellow.  This is something that the Refton Volunteers haven't had in almost fourty (40) years!  Before Engine 595 was purchased in 1973, the Fleet was Red.  Going back to a Red Pumper in the Refton House will definitely take some getting used to.  The intent is to keep this new Pumper Red and not repaint it.
