Saturday Pump Operations Class
Dec 16, 2012 - 8:52:59 PM
Sunday, December 16, 2012 - Yesterday, the Refton Volunteers ventured out to the pond behind Strasburg Pallet Company to accomplish a few tasks; give some of the newer Company Driver/Pump Operators time on the Apparatus Pumps, refresh the Seasoned Drivers/Pump Operators on the same, try some different evolutions with pumping out of this particular site for preplanning operations with mutual aid companies and drill on fill site operations (setting up/tearing down and the actual operations with the Junior and Probationary Firefighters).
While there, Lieutenant Hammel and Firefigher Williams went over fill site operations from A to Z, practiced deploying the supply line(s), the manifold and what essential couplings to use. Crews also deployed a deck gun and the Blitzfire to use and explained how they are essential in keeping water flowing once the pumper is successfully "pulling a prime" from the water source when not filling tankers.
Deputy Chief Adsitt and Asst Chief Hicks worked the the pump operators in running different scenarios and going over the pumps and operations.
Crews were able to get a lot of valuable training and data collected for preplan purposes during the event.
Thanks to Captain 5 (Vaughn) for coming out and assisting us.
