Thanksgiving Starts Early for the Refton Volunteers

Friday, November 25, 2011 - Thanksgiving day started early for the Refton Volunteers with two early morning crashes.  The first one was dispatched at 02:55 hours bringing RescueEngine 5-9-1, Rescue 5-12 (Willow Street) and Ambulance 5-9-1 (Providence Twp. EMS) to the area of 1344 Beaver Valley Pike in Strasburg Township.  Upon response of the units, Communications gave the update of a one vehicle accident with the vehicle in the corn field and unknown if patient is trapped.  Units arrived in the area with nothing found.  After checking the area, it was determined that the vehicle fled the scene.  All units went available at 03:07 hours.

The second crash came in a little over an hour later at 04:22 hours with a reported Vehicle Accident Class 1 at 950 Orchard Road in Strasburg Township bringing RescueEngine 5-9-1, Engine 5-9-2, Ambulance 5-9-1 (PTAA) and Medic 7-7-8 (SVEMS).  Upon response of the units, LCWC gave the update of a vehicle that ran off the road, down an embankment and on its side.  Units arrived and found the same with the driver of the vehicle being self-extricated.  Crews stabilized the vehicle and took care of spill control operations while EMS tended to the patient.  Refton Volunteers cleared the scene at 05:52 hours.
